Dr Paul Martin

Dr Paul Martin completed his Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery at Monash University, graduating in 1978. He completed his three year residency at Geelong Hospital before moving to the UK to complete his DRCOG (UK) from 1981 to 1982. He has been a General Practitioner in Ballarat since 1984.

Dr Martin was the Inaugural Vice Chairman of The Ballarat & District Division General Practice and Treasurer from 2006 to 2008. He prides himself on being a rock star…sort of, and has taken three games off Peter McNamara (…but not that recently!)

Dr Martin consults from Monday to Friday with the exception of Tuesday afternoons.

Dr Robert Hinchey

Dr Robert Hinchey graduated of The University of Sydney and is interested in all aspects and facets of general practice. He enjoys outdoor activities and commutes on his bicycle.....when weather permits!

Dr Hinchey consults from Monday to Friday with the exception of Tuesday and Thursday afternoons.

Dr Tony Bongiorno

Dr Tony Bongiorno was born in Melbourne and for the most part lived in Flemington studying at St Brendan’s then Xavier College. He graduated from Melbourne University in 1982.

Dr Bongiorno's clinical training was at The Royal Melbourne Hospital and Ballarat Base Hospital in medicine and obstetrics. He had interests initially in sports medicine and did further training in this field. As a result he has had honorary positions with the Ballarat Miners, North Ballarat Football Club, Ballarat Turf Club, East Ballarat Football Club and the Ballarat Trotting Club. His interests now however are firmly in family oriented general practice and he particularly enjoys paediatric practice. The longer he is in general practice the more he feels to be a small part of his patient’s lives for which he feels extremely humble.

Dr Bongiorno has a great family with his wife Christine. They have three children. Jacinta is a nurse and teacher and is currently working as a volunteer in an orphanage in Tanzania, Ben works for an accounting firm in Melbourne and played footy until he hurt his shoulder last year and Stephen is completing VCE and is a fantastic golfer who plays off 5. They also have two dogs that they try to walk most days and two cats he tries to avoid!

Dr Bongiorno consults from Monday to Friday and spends Wednesday afternoons working on his golf swing!

Dr Jill Ramsey

Dr Jill Ramsey completed her MBBS at The University of Melbourne and has lived and worked in Ballarat for 21 years. Dr Ramsey also works as the Forensic and Custodial Medical Officer in Ballarat and has done so for about 10 years.

Dr Ramsey has three girls, two of whom are at university in Melbourne and one is a nurse at the Royal Children’s Hospital. Her husband Tony works in ICU and anaesthetics at the Ballarat Base Hospital and St John of God Hospital. Dr Ramsey is very keen on theatre and enjoys playing golf and likes to travel.

Dr Ramsey consults on Monday, Wednesday and Friday mornings.

Danni Steele

Danni Steele is a Division 1 Registered Nurse with over five years experience in general practice. Danni is the Clinical Nurse Manager of UFS Medical and oversees the professional and compassionate team of practice nurses.

Danni has achieved accreditation in immunisation, wound management and ear irrigation, and is an accredited Pap test provider. Danni has a passion for women’s health and was instrumental in setting up our very successful after-hours women’s health clinics.

Danni consults from Monday to Friday.

Tamara Warland

Tamara Warland is a Division 1 Registered Nurse with over three years experience in general practice. Tamara has achieved accreditation in immunisation and ear irrigation and has a passion for paediatrics.

Tamara consults on Mondays, Tuesdays and alternating Thursdays.

Gail Creanor

Gail Creanor is a Division 1 Registered Nurse and qualified Midwife with over two years experience in general practice.

Gail is our dedicated chronic disease management nurse and provides patients with a multi-disciplinary approach to healthcare.

Gail consults on Wednesdays, Fridays and alternating Thursdays.

Emma Shepherd

Emma Shepherd is a Division 1 Registered Nurse and has recently chosen to branch into general practice after five years experience in the hospital setting.

Emma has achieved postgraduate qualifications in sexual and reproductive health and is an accredited Pap test provider.

Emma consults on a casual basis and is passionate about her regular involvement in our after-hours women’s health clinics

Dr Mark Churcher

Dr Mark Churcher graduated in medicine in 1986 and completed his Dip.RACOG in 1989. He spent 1991 to 1993 working in anaesthetics in the UK and returned to Australia and completed his FRACGP in 1995.

Dr Chucher has worked at Gillies Street Medical Clinic (now UFS Medical Centre) since 1994 and continues to attend the Antenatal clinic at BHS and assists in theatre at BHS and SJOG. Dr Churcher has been on the board of the Ballarat & District Division of General Practice since 1994 and as Chair for the last seven years.

Dr Churcher is married with 3 active boys and 2 active dogs

Dr Colin Crook

Dr Colin Crook grew up in Melbourne. He graduated in medicine from Monash University in 1978. His first two years as a doctor were spent at the Ballarat Base Hospital and he had two further years of general practice training before starting at Gillies Street Medical Clinic (now UFS Medical Centre) in 1983.

Since 2001 Dr Crook has worked as the GP Advisor to the Ballarat and District Division of General Practice, and also as the Chairman of Continuing Medical Education.

Dr Crook is married and has three daughters and a son. His interests are cycling, swimming, snow skiing, the theatre, visiting art galleries and the Sydney Swans football club.

Vicki Duffy

Vicki Duffy is a registered division one nurse with a Bachelor of Nursing (Post Reg) from Ballarat University and is Immunisation Accredited. Vicki completed her training at St John of God Hospital and has worked at a number of hospitals across Victoria as well as overseas.

Vicki has spent the last thirteen years at Cabrini Hospital in Malvern in urology/gynaecology, as well as homecare and care coordination/case management.

Vicki moved back to Ballarat in 2008 and worked with the Ballarat District Nursing & Healthcare before commencing with Gillies Street Medical Clinic (now UFS Medical Centre) in February 2009.

Dr Dawn Le

Dr Dawn Le completed her medical degree at the University of Adelaide in 1991. She enjoys the breadth of general practice including antenatal shared care.

Dr Le and her family moved to Ballarat in 2009 - it was an interesting journey with 3 children, a dog and a cat in the car.

Dr Le consults on Monday afternoons, Tuesday mornings, all day Thursday and Friday mornings

Dr Paul Hemming

Dr Paul Hemming graduated from Birmingham University, England in 1969. His next few years were spent as a Medical Officer in the Royal Air Force, working with pilots of the Harrier Jump Jets and their families, before entering Rural General Practice in UK.

Paul and his family migrated to Australia in 1977 and he commenced a very successful practice with Brian Hassett in Ballarat. Since 1977 the practice has grown to include 4 General Practitioners who provide a full range of GP services.

Paul has also been very active in the community and outside his practice. He was President of the AMA in Victoria and national President of the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners, as well as serving on many government committees and advisory bodies such as "beyondblue". He started the Ballarat and District Division of General Practice and was the inaugural Chair of GP Divisions Victoria. Currently Paul is a member of Council at the University of Ballarat.

Paul and his wife have 2 daughters who live with their families in the Ballarat area and they spend as much time as possible between Ballarat and their beachside property at Queenscliff.

Dr Terence Gibson

Dr Terry Gibson graduated with degrees from Birmingham and London in 1963 and 1964. He moved with this family to Australia in 1965 and since then has worked in various rural areas in Australia and was a principal in a Melbourne practice for 25 years.

Dr Gibson moved to Ballarat in 1999 as part of a sea change, joining the Gillies Street Medical Clinic. He mains dedicated to quality in general practice.

Dr Gibson is married with four children, five grandchildren, and one dog and as part of the rural life twelve hardworking chickens. His interests are in gardening and keeping fit. He has a life long interest in the Aston Villa Soccer Club and is a Melbourne Football Club tragic.
