Dr Tony Bongiorno was born in Melbourne and for the most part lived in Flemington studying at St Brendan’s then Xavier College. He graduated from Melbourne University in 1982.
Dr Bongiorno's clinical training was at The Royal Melbourne Hospital and Ballarat Base Hospital in medicine and obstetrics. He had interests initially in sports medicine and did further training in this field. As a result he has had honorary positions with the Ballarat Miners, North Ballarat Football Club, Ballarat Turf Club, East Ballarat Football Club and the Ballarat Trotting Club. His interests now however are firmly in family oriented general practice and he particularly enjoys paediatric practice. The longer he is in general practice the more he feels to be a small part of his patient’s lives for which he feels extremely humble.
Dr Bongiorno has a great family with his wife Christine. They have three children. Jacinta is a nurse and teacher and is currently working as a volunteer in an orphanage in Tanzania, Ben works for an accounting firm in Melbourne and played footy until he hurt his shoulder last year and Stephen is completing VCE and is a fantastic golfer who plays off 5. They also have two dogs that they try to walk most days and two cats he tries to avoid!
Dr Bongiorno consults from Monday to Friday and spends Wednesday afternoons working on his golf swing!
